“How much is this going to cost?” is the first question every homeowner, property manager and condo board asks us. Until a crew walks the site, nobody can give you an exact number. But you shouldn’t have to wait for a site visit just to know whether your project is a $10,000 job or a $60,000 job. That’s why we rebuilt our online tool from the ground up. The new Rico Asphalt free paving estimate gives you an installed price range in seconds, based on real Rico Asphalt projects across Puerto Rico.

What Changed: Installed Price, Not Just Material
Our first quote tool calculated the cost of the asphalt material only. That was useful for tonnage, but it left out what you actually pay for: the crew, the trucks, the paver and roller, site prep and debris removal. Clients would see a number on the website that was a fraction of the real job, and then be surprised by the quote.
The new estimator shows an installed price range, covering labor, equipment and materials together. Before launching it, we checked the formula against our own recent quotes for driveways, church and business lots, hotel parking and large commercial lots. Every one of those real quotes landed inside the range the tool shows.
How to Use the Estimator in 3 Steps
- Enter the size of the area. Type the length and width in feet, or enter the total square footage. If you have more than one area (for example, a driveway plus a side parking pad), add them up and enter the total.
- Choose the asphalt thickness. 1.5″ for parking lots with light traffic, 2″ for standard driveways, 3″ for heavy traffic and trucks.
- Pick the current surface. Fair asphalt means we pave over what’s there. Worn asphalt means we remove the top layer first. Dirt or gravel means we build a new compacted base before paving.
Your price range updates instantly as you change the inputs, along with the job size: small (under 2,500 sq ft), medium (2,500 to 10,000 sq ft) or large (over 10,000 sq ft).
What Asphalt Paving Costs in Puerto Rico: Sample Ranges
Here are a few examples, taken straight from the estimator, so you can see how size, thickness and surface condition change the price:
- Residential driveway, 1,500 sq ft, 2″, paving over fair asphalt: $8,500 – $10,900
- Gravel driveway, 3,000 sq ft, 3″, new base required: $20,100 – $25,700
- Business or church parking lot, 5,000 sq ft, 1.5″ overlay: $13,200 – $16,800
- Commercial lot, 20,000 sq ft, 1.5″, worn surface removed first: $50,900 – $65,000
Your project will be different. These are ballpark figures, not quotes, and the final price always comes after a free site visit.
Why Small Jobs Cost More Per Square Foot
One thing the estimator makes clear: price per square foot drops as the job gets bigger. In the examples above, the 1,500 sq ft driveway works out to roughly $6.50 per square foot at the middle of the range, while the 5,000 sq ft parking lot is closer to $3.00.
The reason is mobilization. Every job, big or small, needs a full crew, a paver, a roller, dump trucks and hot-mix delivered from the plant, plus travel to your site anywhere on the island. That fixed cost is spread over fewer square feet on a small driveway. If you’re a homeowner, it’s worth asking neighbors whether they need work too. Combining areas into one job is one of the few ways to lower the cost per square foot.
What’s Included and What Isn’t
Included in the estimate:
- Crew, trucks and equipment
- Debris removal and site prep
- Hot-mix asphalt, spread and compacted
Not included (quoted separately after the site visit):
- Pressure washing and herbicide
- Drainage, concrete, line striping and permits
- Base repairs or hidden conditions found under the surface
Hidden conditions are the biggest reason a final quote can differ from the estimate. Water damage under the surface, soft spots and failed base often only show up when we’re on site. Our HUB Advanced Networks project in Río Piedras is a good example: failed drainage meant the lot had to be rebuilt from the base up, not just resurfaced.
From Estimate to Exact Price
Once you see your range, you can leave your name, email, phone and town right on the estimate page. Your measurements and estimate are sent to us automatically, so you don’t have to explain the project twice. We’ll contact you to schedule a free site visit, measure the area, check the base and drainage, and send you a formal written quote.
We work across the whole island, for homeowners, small businesses, condominiums, churches, schools, hospitals, hotels and government facilities. If your project also needs line striping, see our guide to parking lot striping for Puerto Rico condominiums.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the online estimate a quote?
No. It’s a ballpark range to help you budget. Your exact price comes in a written quote after a free site visit.
Does the estimate include labor?
Yes. Unlike our original tool, which only priced the asphalt material, the new estimator shows an installed price that includes the crew, equipment, site prep and materials.
Which thickness should I choose?
Most residential driveways use 2″. Parking lots with light car traffic often use 1.5″. Choose 3″ if trucks, delivery vehicles or heavy equipment will use the surface. If you’re not sure, pick 2″ and we’ll confirm during the site visit.
How do I measure an irregular area?
Break it into rectangles, multiply length by width for each one, and add them up. Enter the total in the “Total area” field. A close approximation is fine; we measure precisely on site.
Why is my final quote different from the estimate?
Usually because of conditions we can only see on site: base failures, drainage problems, access issues, or extra work like concrete, striping or permits that the estimate doesn’t include.
